2019 Realm Cabernet Sauvignon Levensohn Vineyard
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Levensohn Vineyard is a racy, open-knit wine from a site in the center of St. Helena. Bright red cherry fruit, blood orange, mint and cinnamon infuse the 2019 with layers of nuance. This radiant, succulent Cabernet offers tons of immediacy and sexiness. This is the last Levensohn for Realm, as the vineyard had been sold.
2019 Realm Cabernet Sauvignon Levensohn Vineyard
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Levensohn Vineyard has been made only in 2018 and 2019, and there won’t be any produced in 2020 (nor in 2017). The vineyard was recently sold, so this will be the swan song from this site just beside Bourn Vineyard. Lots of blackcurrants, tobacco, chocolate, and chalky minerality emerge from the glass, and it’s another flawlessly balanced, full-bodied, beautifully textured wine from this team that has another 20+ years of prime drinking ahead of it."
2018 Levensohn Cabernet Sauvignon
"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Levensohn Vineyard, a new wine in this range, is enticing. It is sourced from a small vineyard in St. Helena Realm took over a few years ago. Bright red berry fruit, rose petal, spice, pomegranate and blood orange infuse the 2018 with tons of St. Helena character. Elegant and lithe, the 2018 is a very pretty Cabernet, with bright acids and plenty of raciness. Stylistically, the Levensohn offers a bit less depth than is typical at Realm. Among other things, that gives the wine quite a bit of immediacy and overall appeal. There will be two vintages of the Levensohn for Realm - 2018 and 2019. The 2020 was lost to fire, and then the vineyard was sold."
2016 Levensohn Cabernet Sauvignon
"Winemaker Benoit Touquette compares the 2016 vintage to 2014 with its purity and balance. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon shows the fresher style of the vintage beautifully and offers up a complex array or crème de cassis, blueberries, crushed rocks, violets, and lead pencil shaving-like notes. This full bodied beauty has awesome purity of fruit, a seamless texture, perfect balance, and a great, great finish. Give bottles another 2-4 years, and it's going to evolve gracefully for 20 years of more. It's pure class."
2015 Levensohn Cabernet Sauvignon
"Gorgeous on all accounts, with vibrant, crème de cassis, licorice, graphite, and hints of charcoal, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied, concentrated, and focused on the palate, with a great finish. It's a seriously impressive Cabernet Sauvignon that's going to be even better with short-term cellaring and keep for 20+ years."
2015 Levensohn Cabernet Sauvignon
"Containing a 5% splash of Merlot and aged 19 months in French oak (80% new), the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet-purple color with vibrant notions of red and black currents, violets, blackberries and black cherries, plus a cinnamon toast and pencil shavings undercurrent. Medium to full-bodied, lively and purely fruited on the palate, it has a firm, grainy backbone and long finish of spicy layers."
2014 Levensohn Cabernet Sauvignon
"This blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot is deep, rich, concentrated and authoritative. Dense ruby/purple-colored, with crème de cassis and blacker fruits, some licorice and incense, it is full-bodied, beautifully pure, with sweet tannin and a long, layered finish. This is high-brow, impressive Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 15-20 years."
2013 Levensohn Cabernet Sauvignon
"So much blackberry and black licorice aromas follow through to a full body, chewy tannins and a tight and polished finish. Muscular and fit red. Needs two or three years of bottle age to soften."
2013 Levensohn Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from their vineyard in St. Helena is a slightly richer, broader and more profoundly deep style of Cabernet Sauvignon than the 2012 with a nearly opaque ruby/purple color, with sweet black cherry and blackcurrant fruit in the intense and persistent aromatics. Full-bodied with the same alcohol as the 2012 (14.8%), the wine cuts a broad swath across the palate without any sense of heaviness. Pure and ripe but still youthful and relatively unevolved, this should be cellared for another 3-5 years and drink over the following two decades.
2014 Levensohn Cabernet Sauvignon
"Aromas of blackberries, blueberries and wet earth with hints of lavender. Medium to full body, integrated tannins and a savory finish. Needs time to soften. Better in 2019."
2014 Levensohn Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon may ultimately be as good as the 2013, which is not easy. Beautiful sweet blueberry and black raspberry fruit and cassis are all present in this wine that has fabulous purity, a full-bodied mouthfeel, sweet tannin and a long finish. The final judgement will be from bottle, but this is a strong 2014.
